TraveLog : Shanghai

Hello to Vivacious Fam

As I promised this year that I will be sharing my travel stories on the blog, Here I come with the first one. True, I will be talking about my experience but these TraveLogs will still be Fashion focused. I would love some suggestions on these blogs as this will be new for me. I have done few TraveLogs before on the blog but that was last year and I did not focus much on the topic. To start with, I am talking about my recent Experience with China and the Oriental Paris city, Shanghai.

Things To Remember for China Vacation

  1. Visa in China is NOT on Arrival so take care of it beforehand. You need an invitation letter from Chinese citizen or detailed Iternary.
  2. Get a VPN for China visit as most of our favorite sites like Facebook, Instagram, Youtube are blocked by firewall. I installed ExpressVPN as it was easy and can be installed in multiple devices.
  3. Cash is preferred at most of the local places. Visa or Mastercard does work in hotels and restaurants but it is good to carry some Cash in local currency, Yuan.
  4. Install any Translator app as local people and even government employess in airport or other important places do not understand English.
  5. Only use Bottled Water as the water in China is not drinkable.
  6. Pollution is bad in cities like Shanghai and Beijing and Masks are recommended.
  7. Roads are expected to be crowded. Delays are normal. Planning to catch a flight or train, Plan ahead.
  8. Download WeChat to connect with locals. It is the most used app in the country.

SHOP MY LOOK

Dress : Zara. Similar here and here | Footwear : Steve Madden | Bracelet : G by Guess | Sunglasses : Charming Charlie. Similar here | Watch : Apple

Shanghai is the most populous city in the world but you will love it for all the liveliness it brings. People are always dressed up (I love that part alot about this city) and always going somewhere. We felt like celebrities cause so many of them wanted to take pictures with us. Haha, it was fun. Coming to the places to visit on your Day 1 in Shanghai. We tried to cover some old and traditional places during day as they close in the evening.

Recommended places to see during Day are :

  • Yuyuan Garden : It means Garden of Happiness. Beautiful Chinese Garden in the Old Shanghai. The Exquisite Jade Rock, Dragon Wall, Various Halls are the main attraction here.
  • Jade Buddha Temple : Buddhist Temple in Shanghai. Statues of a sitting Buddha (1.95 meters tall) and a smaller reclining Buddha representing the Buddha’s death are the main attraction of this temple. The architecture of the temples is traditional and beautiful.
  • The Longhua Temple : It is the largest, most authentic and complete ancient Buddist temple complex in the city of Shanghai
  • Zhujiajiao Water Town : Zhujiajiao is a water town on the outskirts of Shanghai. It is like a mini version of Venice but the drive from Shanghai sis 2 hours roughly. Hence it is totally recommended to do it on a seperate day.
  • The Bund : I will be talking about our day visit to The Bund in my upcoming blog but the view of Shanghai Tower and the whole skyline is must see.
  • Nanjing Road : Place to do all the shopping in Shanghai but remember to do bargain as it works perfectly in the shops.

Recommended places to cover in the Evening are :

  • Xintiandi : One of the first lifestyle centers of Shanghai, this place is full of book stores, cafes and restaurants, and shopping malls. Xintiandi has an active nightlife on weekdays as well as weekends. Most expensive place in China to live.
  • The French Concession : It was a foreign concession in Shanghai until 1943. Wukang Lu is a beautiful street, quaint and pretty, with outdoor cafes sprinkled here and there. Cozy Wine Bar and Bistro’ is a MUST visit for some drinks , coffee or snacksFerguson Lane is nice for outdoor restaurants and wine bars. Visit Wulumuqi Road to see ‘Avacado Lady’ shop (Tiny local shop with everything). Yongfu Lu, Hengshan Lu, Donping Lu and Yueyang Lu are lined with bars and nightclubs if one wants to go.
  • The Bund : I know , I told to you visit The Bund during Daytime but the view during night is not lesser than day. With all the towers and building well-lit, the view is breathtaking. That romantic view feeling one gets here.

What to Wear in Shanghai

I visited Shanghai in the Month of March which is the month of transition from Winters to Spring. I totally recommend carrying a Jacket or Overcoat for evenings as it gets little chill at that time. Days were sunny and towards hot. It might rain in March month so Umbrella is not a bad option to carry with you. Though I did not carry it, it is manageable without same too. The transition to Spring made me so excited that I packed most of my Spring looks for the trip. Featuring on this blog is my Floral Closed Neck Dress from Zara with all pretty colors. Prefer to wear some comfortable footwear during the day as the walks can be pretty exhausting and heels might not be that good idea. I carried my favorite for this season, Velvet Slip On Shoes from Steve Madden.

I hope you liked the TraveLog of Shanghai and it helped you to plan a trip to this awesome city. I will be coming up with one more blog on Shanghai where I will be talking about places to eat, shop and my love for the Bund area. Do share with me how you like this blog and what else would you like to hear from me in this section. Any questions and suggestions are totally welcome.

Love You Always,

Stay Vivacious 💋
